welcome to folio!
we built folio as a privacy-focused social media platform from the ground up. protecting your privacy is one of the core focusses of our team.
this policy explains how we collect, use and share your personal information.
reach out to [email protected] for any privacy matters.
we aim to collect only the absolute minimum data needed to run folio. we don’t track you or sell your data, since we don’t even serve you any ads.
| type of data | what it is | why we collect it |
| username | the name you choose to identify yourself on folio | to allow you to log in and to attribute your posts and comments to you |
| password hash | a secure, scrambled version of your password. we never store your actual password. | to verify your identity when you log in without us ever knowing your password. |
| your content | your posts, comments, text and images you intentionally upload or create on folio | to display your content to your followers as you intended |
we use the data we collect for these limited purposes:
that’s it! we don’t use your data for advertising, market research, or profiling
we want to be clear about what we don’t collect or store:
we take the security of your minimal data seriously. we use industry-standard measures to protect it, including:
hashing passwords: as mentioned, we never store your actual password.
encryption: folio is only accessible using secure connections (https) to protect data moving between your device and our servers.
access control: limiting access to our servers and databases only to necessary personnel.
since we store so little, your rights are easy to manage:
access/view: you can view all the content you have posted simply by using the platform.
deletion (right to be forgotten): you can request delete your folio account at any time through your account settings. when you do, we will delete your username, password hash, and all associated content.
we may update this policy occasionally.
if we make any significant changes to what data we collect or how we use it (which is unlikely given our core mission), we will notify you prominently on the folio website before the changes take effect. for minor non-substantive changes, the “last updated” date at the top will change.
